I recently "obtained" a copy of Virtual PC 2004, and I set up a Windows ME virtual machine at home on my Windows XP machine.

It works really well, but what I wanted to ask was what type of virtual machine should I make? Supposedly Linux "works, but is unsupported" so that might be interesting, although I hate trying to download the 3 GB worth of iso files for Linux distros.

I wish they had cheap Linux Mandrake CDs at Best Buy. sad.gif

Edit: Ha ha, the forum software "stopped shouting" in my thread title by making the C in PC lowercase. rolleyes.gif

Well, what version of mandrake do you want? If you don't mind using a slightly older version, I still have my CD's from 9.0 at home... I think 9.0... maybe 9.2? I don't know, its pretty cool! It has Tron 3-D and Tux Racer! :-) Let me know if you want to use those, and I'll get em to you.

Yeah, I'd like to try that. The last time I tried Mandrake it was 6.something. I guess 9 is supposed to be a lot better than previous versions.

Ok, I'll try to get them to you tomarrow (thursday 10/14/04) if I remember!

Thanks for the CDs man, it's working good in a virtual machine smile.gif

I downloaded Red Hat Fedora Core 2 but the graphical install won't run in a virtual machine (it's not detecting the "virtual display adapter" correctly) but I'll try the text-based install and get back with you on that one too.

I'm just posting again to say that I did indeed get Fedora Core 2 to work with VPC, although I had to find a page that walked me through a workaround to get the display adapter to work.

The funny thing is, Fedora wouldn't install on an actual partition on my computer! It kept detecting the (unused) built in motherboard video rather than the GeForce MX 440 PCI card which is actually hooked up to the monitor.
