i was woundering, is the mainboard the same thing as a mother board, or are they two diffrent things?

Well... a computers motherboard may look different, depending on many factors... Brand, Proc type, Ram type, Age, etc... Here is a fairly common looking motherboard:

that pic should explain it all, you plug pretty much everything into mobo... ram, video card, sound card (unless your audio/video is onboard of course)....just look for the biggest circuit board in your pc, and ill bet its yer mobo!
