about 3 years ago there was a flutter of activity surrounding the announcement of PCI express slots. It was said that they would completely replace pci and agp, but i haven't heard anything about them since. was the idea dropped?

Have not heard anything about PCi-E!!!?!?! They are the new thing in graphics cards, and they are phasing out AGp slots and PCi slots!! Look at some new computers!

Whats the difference in the 16x and the 1x besides the speed and the size of the slot on the mobo? More or less what Im trying to ask is, whats the 1x slot even for?

PCI-e 1x has more bandwidth. I don't think bandwith is shared either. There are some networking cards & controller cards available for 1x.

pci express is around alot more than i thought it would be, my next mobo i am aiming to get pci express on it.
